‘Merry Mashi’ is an endeavor started by a team in Kolkata who are passionate about bringing transformation in their local communities. ‘Mashi’ in Bengali is a term of love and respect used for elderly women. ‘Merry Mashi’ brings meaning to older women’s lives in Kolkata, India through vocation, support, and belonging. Every purchase you make provides an opportunity for these ladies to come together, nurture friendships, and carry out meaningful work.
During the first lockdown, there was no work available for our mashis.
So they chose to learn a new skill.
“At the start, learning crochet was hard and we made lots of mistakes. But then slowly we improved and we were able to make these cotton cloths.
We are so proud that we learnt how to crochet, each cloth is handmade by a one of us, using 100% cotton yarn.
We tried them out here and were happy with how sturdy they were even after washing a lot.
We hope you love them as much as we loved making them and learning a new skill.”
